Let’s talk TOOTHPASTES!

First Toothpaste

The first toothpaste was invented by the Egyptians!  This was a recipe of salt, mint leaves, dried irises, and pepper, all mixed together to create a cleaning powder.

Types of Toothpaste

Types of toothpastes you may see at the store include…

  • Whitening,
  • fresh breath,
  • cavity prevention,
  • gingivitis prevention,
  • preventing tartar and plaque, and
  • tooth sensitivity.

Which toothpaste is the best?

What are toothpastes main job? To clean teeth!

The other features of toothpastes benefit CLEAN teeth. Focusing on getting clean teeth makes choosing a toothpaste a lot easier thereafter, because when your teeth are clean, you’ll have a much better idea of what you may actually still want further help with! We don’t recommend whitening toothpaste as we find that they are more abrasive and may cause gum recessions. Use other whitening products

Organic food stores sell organic toothpastes, and these do as good a job of cleaning your teeth as drugstore toothpastes.

Our Best Advice: Pick a toothpaste that does not have additives, and aims to CLEAN and look for ADA or CDA seal of approval.

What else do I need to know?

The most important thing is that you are brushing often ( 2-3 times daily) and for long enough duration (2-3 min.). Check our other posts on Brushing and flossing.
